FTMO is a Prague-based proprietary trading firm founded in 2015 and widely regarded as the firm that shaped the modern evaluation model. Traders pay a one-time fee to take an evaluation; those who pass receive an FTMO Account and are paid a share of the profits they generate.
Important: FTMO Accounts use simulated capital. You are not trading FTMO’s money on the live market — rewards are paid based on your simulated results. Your real financial exposure is the evaluation fee.
How the evaluation works
FTMO offers two routes. The 2-Step path is the classic one: the FTMO Challenge (10% profit target) followed by the Verification (5% target), both with a 5% maximum daily loss, a 10% static maximum loss and at least 4 trading days per phase. The 1-Step path has a single 10% target but tighter risk rules: a 3% daily loss limit, a 10% maximum loss that trails your end-of-day balance, and a Best Day Rule that stops one lucky day from carrying the whole result. Neither route has a time limit.
Costs and refunds
The regular fee for a $10K 2-Step Challenge is around €155, scaling up with account size (FTMO has run promotions below this). The 2-Step fee is refunded together with your first reward; the 1-Step fee is not. There are no monthly or recurring charges.
Rewards and scaling
Rewards can be requested on demand from the 14th day after your first trade on the FTMO Account, provided the account is in profit with no open positions. The 2-Step starts at an 80% split and rises to 90% under the Scaling Plan, which adds 25% to the account balance every four months for consistent traders — up to $2M. Capital is capped at $400K per trader or strategy before scaling.
Platforms and trading rules
FTMO supports MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader and TradingView (DXtrade was discontinued for new accounts in March 2026). Expert Advisors are allowed. On the Standard account type, trading within two minutes of selected news releases and holding positions over the weekend are restricted once you reach the FTMO Account; the Swing account type removes both restrictions at a reduced 1:30 leverage.
Is FTMO right for you?
FTMO suits traders who value track record and clear, well-documented rules over the lowest possible entry price. If you trade news or hold positions for days, choose the Swing account type from the start.
